Dear Neighbors,
As a first-generation immigrant born in the United States, I know firsthand that when it comes to feeding hope, mental wellness is an essential component. At Nourishing Hope, our neighbors in minority communities experience a higher risk for mental health challenges.
Please give this Minority Mental Health Awareness Month to feed hope in Chicago!
My family lived in a low-income neighborhood on the North Side of Chicago. We struggled with food insecurity, housing stability, and language barriers. These challenges weighed on my mom. Working at Nourishing Hope, I better understand that food insecurity doubles the risk of anxiety and depression.*
At the Pantry, our clients’ stories resonate with my childhood memories. That’s why I’m thrilled that we have expanded our mental health services. Four new on-site therapists offer free mental health care for clients in Spanish, Polish, and English. Thanks to our donors, clients can access counseling that meets their unique needs.
Nourishing Hope believes a healthy mind is as important as maintaining physical health. Thank you for fighting hunger and feeding hope!
Sincerely,
Vanessa Rico
