Approximately one in nine people struggle with hunger on Chicago’s North Side, many working poor with children. Nourishing Hope, the largest food pantry in the city, has helped bring food and critical services to this population for 49 years. The pantry has grown to serve 1.7 million meals each year to about 9,000 households. In 2016, Nourishing Hope opened their Sheridan Site, a modern two-story facility designed by Wheeler Kearns Architects. Besides the distribution center, it features social service spaces where case workers can meet with clients in private to assess their full spectrum of needs.
