Fifty years ago, a small dedicated group of neighbors began a grassroots effort to help the neighbors in their community who needed it most, and the People’s Pantry of Lakeview was born. Serving just under 100 people in our first year, today Nourishing Hope is on track to provide more than 100,000 clients with 4 million meals through 57,000 site visits, Online Market orders, and dozens of community pop-up partnerships this year. We also provide critical social services including mental health counseling, job search support and crisis intervention. With the support of more than 5,000 volunteers, we serve neighborhoods across the city of Chicago.

The COVID-19 pandemic has even further increased demand for these services. And while we’re not able to mark this milestone in person — we’ve set an ambitious goal of raising $250,000 that will help to bridge the gap left in funding from our annual Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope event.
